Nothing really has changed. I’ve set the layout of the book, not the design, but the layout is finished, and I need more submissions to put everything in place. Only ten people have submitted their works. I have more of my own on the way, but I need more people. The writers/artists who have already posted their works are incredibly talented, and many of them have submitted more than one piece of art/writing.
If I cannot get enough people to submit their works, I’m not sure if I will be able to create the book. Would it be worth it to have like 20-30 works of writing and art? Would people buy it?
I’m just struggling to get people to contribute their works. I’m going to call Unicef and World Vision to look into what they are doing for Haiti THIS WEEK. So next week I’ll have the Organization for you. I won’t know about the publishing until Spring Break at least.
I have two covers done! If you want to have a preview of the covers let me know! Just e-mail me (the e-mail is below).
Also, if you have any interest in sending in your works, e-mail me the attachment please.
Thank you so much.
Btw, the 1st Bake sell will happen very soon (yes, I said first). I’m going to be stopping by local churches and maybe even local schools to sell amazingly delicious and fresh homemade cookies at ridiculously inexpensive prices and all proceeds will go to Haiti. If you’re church wants cookies, let me know!
If you have any questions/comments, let me know! Thank you!
Latest Update, PLEASE READ!

ORGANIZATION/COPYRIGHTING.
NEW SITE/ETC. (very important)
We have about 10 submitters so far, and more than half have sent more than one entry. You don’t have to submit more than one, whatever you are willing to contribute is fine.
Also, I’m not sure if I cleared this up, but there is no topic restriction, as long as it’s appropriate. If you have a horror story that you think might now be suitable, I’ll let you know, but it won’t matter most likely. I’m strict on photography’s, drawings, and paintings… aka, if it is gross/gory, or, especially, there is nudity/sexual-sensual content, I won’t even bother. I’ll just say, sorry, no thanks. Otherwise, your art and writings can be about anything.
Additional Writers/Artists include:

- Newport.
I need more submissions.
Thanks to those of you who have made submissions so far… Danielle Fazio, Heather Shamburg, Megan Beddingfield, and Bryan Johnson.
And thank you for the people who said they would… oh, well, I lost count…
I’m going to look into visiting English and Creative Writing classes at nearby high schools and maybe even making little business-like cards with my name, my e-mail, and this site.
On this website it will have all the info you need, and more, about the book, and it feeds updated info as well (like this post itself).
Lately, that’s what I need right now. I need submissions. 5 people are not enough.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns… or if you want to submit any sort of writing or paintings or drawings or photography you’ve composed yourself that you’re willing to contribute, please e-mail me at [haiti.smiles@gmail.com]
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the very first post
THANK YOU for reading, please submit something, please check out the website if you are looking at this…

“Smile, It’s the End of the World,” is a random collection of stories, poems, paintings, photography, drawings, (etc.) and more, created and brought together under a single purpose, and that is to help Haiti.
The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake. Its epicentre was near Léogâne, approximately 25 km (16 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The earthquake occurred at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010,[6][7] at a depth of 13 km (8.1 miles). The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of at least 33 aftershocks, 14 of which were between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9.[8] The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake;[9] the Haitian Interior Minister, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, anticipated on 15 January that the disaster would eventually claim between 100,000 and 200,000 lives.[4] As of 24 January 2010 (2010 -01-24)[update] the confirmed death toll was 150,000.
There’s plenty more info on Wikipedia about the earthquake and everything relating to it.
I’m making this book, “Smile, It’s The End of the World,” to sell as many copies as possible. It’s going to have over a hundred submissions, writings, artwork, etc., and every single penny, 100% of the proceeds, will go to help/aide Haiti Relief. Specifically, every single penny will go to an organization that’s really just knocking the ball out of the park.
I’m looking into organizations like Red Cross and Unicef, trying to find one that, if I were to donate all the money earned by selling these books to them, they would use every single penny for the people in Haiti in some way, and I’d make sure that there wouldn’t be a percentage of the donations that would go elsewhere. All of it would help Haiti. I am also making sure I, and you all as well, are aware of how the organization is using the money. I don’t want to send it somewhere that doesn’t use donation money efficiently. I want the people in Haiti to get the most out of the money we raise. I’ll keep you updated on all that. It’s your money, your works, that you are putting into this book and this cause, you have every right to know every single detail, and all will be provided.
For those of you interested in submitting a work, all credit will be given to where credit is due. I will not take credit for it at all. If you prefer to place your work under anonymous, that’s fine, but I would recommend that you NOT do so… or at least choose a fake name or “alias.”
When it comes near to the time when it will be printed and everything, I am going to try my best to get it copyrighted as well. I don’t want anyone’s personal work that they worked hard on to be stolen, taken, or ripped off by a random stranger. If I am unable to get the works copyrighted, I will let you know, but I’m going to do everything I can.
If that is the case, and you don’t want it printed and sold without it being copyrighted, I will not include when I print everything. It’s a long ways off from being printed, but I’m still going to look into copyrighting so you all are aware of it before.
Another thing, PLEASE orginal works only. Don’t take someone else’s art/writings or anything. Please be honest. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know!!!
And if you have something or some stuff you want to submit, please do so via e-mail attachment! This is the best way to contact me (other than twitter, facebook, and tumblr). [betz.bryan@gmail.com]
Updates will be given if you so desire. Let me know if you don’t want to receive e-mail updates about the Book/organization I choose, etc. I don’t want to annoy the heck out of you.
There will be more info coming later.
I should clear something up about the Title. “Smile, It’s the End of the World,” is the album title to one of Hawk Nelson’s CD’s. I am not saying I created the title itself, but I gave it a sense of purpose. I’m not implying that they didn’t have an idea behind it, but they never had a song called “Smile, (etc.)” and they never said anything about it… I’m not sure if they were just being clever or they truly had an idea. I’m not stealing the title, I made it my own, and I gave it a recognizable purpose, which is portrayed in the Introduction.
I don’t want to steal their idea or take credit for anything; but I did create the idea behind it… at least without them sharing an idea behind it. Anyway, there is more to come soon… Please keep reading!
